 Future’s bright for holiday home owners

Holiday home owners earned an average of almost £9,000 per property in 2010 which may surprise some people who believed this market to be struggling. Holidaylettings.co.uk published data indicating that £350 million was achieved through rental income on their site which lists 40,000 properties creating an average of £8,750 per let.

The multimillion-pound figure is based on average weekly rental rate data and the average conversion rate of enquiries to confirmed bookings, in accordance with advertiser feedback.

‘At a time when the traditional holiday booking season is just weeks away and the revised Furnished Holiday Lettings tax reliefs have just been announced, this should be truly encouraging reading for holiday home owners,’ said Kate Stinchcombe-Gillies, spokesperson for holidylettings.co.uk.

Reasons to be cheerful for 2011? According to research half of all holiday enquiries sent in the run up to Christmas were for 2011 and many summer 2011 holiday enquiries began as early as July. Unsurprisingly its family homes that garner the most appeal, particularly for anxious parents wanting to book ahead for the school summer holidays – incredibly, 71% of holiday home renters are families that have young children.

Following the recent boom it does seem that Turkey can do no wrong as more and more people look to take advantage of new flight schedules with the country currently top of the list when it comes to summer holiday enquiries.  The Canaries and the usual ski resorts in France, Austria and Italy still dominate when it comes to winter sun.  Based on their enquiries, holidaylettings.co.uk indicate that the hotspots for 2011 will be Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Florida. ‘The destination hotspots are not a huge surprise as the strength of the euro means that to keep costs down people are continuing to look outside of the Eurozone for their main holiday and Turkey has all of the appeal of a European holiday, without the expense,’ said Stinchcombe-Gillies.
