British Buyers Return to Spain
All the headlines recently have been about Brits being forced to sell up their Spanish properties and return to the UK, firstly from the poor exchange rate which was then exacerbated by the economic downturn - hence why it’s encouraging to hear that Brits are now turning back to the overseas property market and in particular, are starting to look at Spain again.
A leading real estate company has indicated that the results of their latest survey show British people interested in holiday homes has risen to the levels of April after a painfully slow summer. Spain is back at number 1 destination for Brits looking to invest in holiday homes/villas with Marbella, Nerja, Fuengirola and Mijas being the most popular resorts at the moment. Other regions that Brits are also starting to look at once again include USA, Brazil and the Caribbean.
Confidence in Spain has returned with the majority of people surveyed believing that interest rates will remain steady over the next 12 months resulting in competitive mortgages. It’s clear that the market is there for British investors and demonstrates the enduring appeal of buying in Spain when the conditions are good and favourable. The popularity of Spanish properties does not seem to be diminishing anytime soon but the country is not leading the way in every field. Mortgage firm Conti has indicated that Spain has actually now fallen behind France in terms of the level of interest shown from their potential customers. Either way, the European property market is active, buoyant and ready for us Brits to seriously start looking at once again.
