Budva

Budva is a coastal town within the Budva Riviera, the centre of tourism within Montenegro. The Old Town lies on a small peninsular which is rich in historic monuments. Apart from the Old Town, visitors flock year on year to see the golden sandy beaches and idyllic bay islands.

Budva is well known for it's golden sandy beaches, of which awards have been won - the Grand Prix in 1935 for the most beautiful beach in Europe at the time. To be honest, the beach hasn't changed that much and has recently been named amongst the top 5 beaches in the world by Travel Agency Professionals.

The Budva Riviera stretches for almost 23 miles, with almost 8 miles of white, sandy beaches. This gives you that assurance that there will always be enough space, with none of the crowding you can often see on Spanish beaches.

The most popular beaches on the Riviera are Becici, Kraljicina, Slovenska, Mogren and Petrovac. Petrovac is approximately 15m to the south of Budva, and is located on a sandy bay, surrounded by dense forest.

The old town is one of the oldest centres on the Adriatic, being a settlement since ancient times. It is estimated that it is over 2,500 years old. In the 17th Century, the old town was partly destroyed by an earthquake, although the many alleys and squares still maintain that medieval feel.

Getting to Budva is easy. There are charter flights to Tivat airport which is only 10 miles away, or the busier, Podgorica airport is 25 miles away as the crow flies. An alternative would be Dubrovnik in Croatia. There are regular flights to Dubrovnik from most major UK airports, and the distance is only 35 miles as the crow flies. Most car hire companies, allow customers to travel over the border, but you must ensure that you get the "Green Card" allowing you to do so. This covers your insurance in a foreign country.
