Tivat
Tivat is the youngest town on the Boka Kotorska, the Bay of Kotor. Tivat is fast becoming a major tourist area, as the International airport is only 5km away and it is one of the first major destinations encountered on the road in from the major airport of Dubrovnik.
Tivat has always attracted tourists from the world over, due to it's mild Mediterranean climate, crystal clear sea and warm winters. This is due in part to it lying right the middle part of the bay in Boka Kotorska.
The climate in the area almost guarantees over 110 days of the year where the temperature gets over 30°C. There are also 240 days of sunshine over the year in Tivat, making it one of the sunniest places on the Adriatic sea.
There are 17 beaches on the riviera, which can satisfy even the pickiest tourist. Being on the Adriatic sea, the waves are relatively calm, providing a very safe, family oriented atmosphere.
Tivat has a long tradition of planting trees and gardening, which has been growing for centuries. This does a lot to explain how the town has grown into the green city that it has. Along with the natural shoreline around the town, the greenery has ensured that Tivat is a unique town that is well worth visiting.
The nearby islands of Prevlaka and Sveti Marko (St Mark) are becoming well visited tourist spots. Sveti Marko used to be a Club Med property which has become mostly abandoned, and is now a somewhat exotic and mysterious tourist destination.
If you could only go to one, Sveti Marko is well worth a visit, and even though the previous tourist village has been left and overgrown waiting to be bought, the beach is one of the best around. There are boats to and from the island on a regular basis meaning that you should be able to get there with relative ease.
Tivat is a place with something for everybody. From sun-drenched beaches, to a medieval old town, plus the greenery of a more rural space, Tivat is a place where tourists are going to come back to again and again.
