More Brits than ever visiting Turkey
A recent report into Turkish tourism has shown a 10 percent year-on-year growth for UK visitors in 2010. Of the 28.6 million tourist visitors Turkey received last year, an incredible 2.67 million of these were British.
The latest data on Turkish tourism shows a 10 percent year-on-year growth in British visitors in 2010, a British property purchase consultant focusing on Turkey reported on its website.
"Turkey has gone from strength to strength in the U.K. market," said Tolga Tüylüoğlu, senior director from Turkey’s Culture and Tourism Office, adding that Turkey has been one of the fastest-growing destinations for British visitors, who are attracted by the great value for money found in Turkey in comparison to other nearby destinations.
In early 2009 the Association of British Travel Agents indicated 20 percent growth in British tourists in 2008. The Culture and Tourism Ministry reported 9.06 percent growth in 2009, and this has continued strongly into 2010.
“Lest we not forget the state of international tourism during these times, all in all we have a bright future of growth in tourism to Turkey, and the target of Brits being level with Germans as the largest tourism market, with 3 million yearly visitors is getting close enough to touch,” said Tüylüoğlu.
Meanwhile, demand for property in Turkey remains strong, with home builders struggling to keep up with the demand from locals and overseas buyers.
Istanbul, in particular, is still attracting a huge amount of interest from investors, hardly surprising with an estimated shortfall of 500,000 homes in the Turkish capital city.
Tim Morgan, Managing Director of Emerging Real Estate, still maintains that Turkey is one of the best foreign property markets at present, along with Spain and Brazil.
